Eastern Renewables

Eastern Renewables Fuels Corporation(ERFC) is a newly organized Filipino-owned company that was formally registered in the Securities and Exchange Commission on August 3, 2007. The company is into developing existing and emerging alternative sources of energy as well as projects related to enhancing the energy security and promotes sustainable energy development in the Philippines. It is a subsidiary of Eastern Petroleum Corporation; a recognized independent petroleum player in the country. ERFC engages in the production and development of alternative fuels consistent with Republic Act 9637 otherwise known as Philippine Biofuels Act of 2006 which mandates oil companies to have a five (5) percent blend of ethanol in gasoline products two years after the signing of the law. After four years upon the effectivity of the law, the blend will be increased to ten (10) percent.

Accepting the call in the fight against global warming, ERFC is committed to the production and distribution of ethanol in the country. It is currently planting and gathering up to 12,000 hectares of cassava plantation for feedstock production. Its 100,000LPD cassava based ethanol plant is targeted to go online by the end of the 2011, just in time to meet the needed volume requirement of the industry.

The mandated 5 % blend for ethanol but marketed as E10 starting February 2009 will require an estimated 250 to 300 million liters of ethanol per year equivalent to the production capacity of 10 ethanol plants producing 100,000 liters per day. By 2011, the Biofuels Board will increase the blend to 10% of volume which constitute 500 to 600 million liters of ethanol needed by the industry or equivalent to 20 ethanol plants with 100,000 liters per day capacity.
